By enabling gesture-based control of lights, fans, and other appliances, these “Curtain UIs” demonstrate the feasibility of turning passive textiles into active interfaces. Insights from our design exploration highlight their potential as a medium for tangible, embodied interaction in smart home environments. February 2025 https://youtu.be/acYNIDgBcWc A Virtual Reality Approach to Overcome Glossophobia among University Students This study evaluates “Manch,” a Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) tool designed to reduce Public Speaking Anxiety (PSA) among university students. Conducted with 28 participants, results showed a significant drop in PSA after simulated classroom presentations in a realistic VR environment. Participant interviews further highlighted VRET’s effectiveness and potential for future interventions. Balachandran, A., Vohra, P., & Srivastava, A. (2024) https://youtu.be/QXrUF-F9Vok Safar: Heuristics for Augmented Reality Integration in Cultural Heritage This research examines how Augmented Reality (AR) can enhance heritage tourism in India by blending technology with cultural storytelling. Using a case study approach with co-creation sessions and qualitative analysis, it explores user interactions with AR/VR tools at a historical site. The study offers practical design guidelines for integrating AR into cultural sites to enrich visitor experiences. July 2024 https://youtu.be/NLAcSmlIbNM KaavadBits: Exploring Tangible Interactive Storytelling through a Kaavad-inspired Installation This work presents KaavadBits, a tabletop installation inspired by the Indian storytelling tradition of kaavad baanchana, reimagining it through interactive branching narratives. Using Panchatantra tales, audiences engage with a tree-shaped narrator via tokens for a multi-modal storytelling experience. Insights from a pilot study highlight its potential to preserve intangible heritage while inspiring novel interaction techniques. June 2024 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv9o93oLyis Jail Diaries: An Interactive Pop-up Book Art Installation In this paper, we introduce an interactive pop-up book installation called ’Jail Diaries.’ The book installation is designed for step-by-step interactions, including sound, touch, and visuals, with the goal of enhancing the storytelling process. Jail Diaries aims to connect users with the history of Indian freedom fighters and their sacrifices for the country by using technology to bring a pop-up book to life.
